Famed DJ and producer Preservation is a long-time collaborator of Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def), one half of Dr. Yen Lo with Brooklyn emcee Ka, and has crafted tracks for RZA, GZA, MF DOOM, Raekwon, Aesop Rock, KRS-One, Jean Grae, and many more. Now, Preservation is back with "Eastern Medicine, Western Illness", a new album produced during Preservation's time living in Hong Kong. The project features an arsenal of top-tier lyricists, including Ka, Mach-Hommy, Your Old Droog, Roc Marciano, Quelle Chris, Billy Woods, Nickelus F, Tree, Grande Marshall, A.G., and Hong Kong’s own Young Queenz. “There was a purity to the approach,” explains Preservation. “I wanted every track to be sourced only from Chinese records, which was an exciting challenge.” The result is an album showcasing some of the best hip-hop talent from the West over sounds from the East, blending cultures and styles to create a potent musical elixir.
“Da Qween can rap and sing with the best of them,” says Seattle radio station KEXP, while adding that “one listen to this music and you’ll experience freedom, rebellion, ingenuity, and unabashed self-love.” This album slaps hard and shows off Seattle’s vibrant rap scene. Northwest underground hip-hop label Crane City Music has released Da Qween’s acclaimed “Renaissance Bitch” album on limited-edition, purple vinyl. The self-described reefer-smoking, black, queer, non-binary, hard-femme delivers quick-wit bars that will bury your favorite rapper. Look no further than the second track, “When Worst Comes To Worst”—three-and-a-half minutes of unrelenting, baller versus with nary a breath. You’ll also find new anthems for playing Nintendo and for celebrating 420, too. Da Qween’s undefinable “Renaissance Bitch” is an expansive, ambitious, and theatrical listen that will easily be one of your new favorites. Only 500 individually numbered copies have been pressed.
Exploring uncharted territories both through his raw yet refined lyricism and musical soundscape, Fliptrix flips the notion of conventions on its head and delivers this in the form of brand new album ‘INEXHALE’. Expanding the lexicon of Hip Hop, the project goes beyond the boundaries as he takes you on a metaphorical journey buried deep with out of the box symbolism and concepts. The album, produced by the highly respected Joe Corfeild, Molotov & Chemo,
takes us on a journey that not only marks a maturity in Fliptrix’s sound but demonstrates a depth that explores and pays homage to different influences. The juxtaposition of the title ‘INEXHALE’ gives a premonition into the complexity of his sound as it leads into a transition. With features from Ocean Wisdom, Skinnyman, Coops, Onoe Caponoe, Datkid & Carmody the record is peppered with some epic guest vocals.
MF DOOM is the man in the iron mask. The most mysterious figure in hip-hop has also become one of the most popular, supplying beats and rhymes for Gorillaz, De La Soul, Madlib, Danger Mouse, and Wu-Tang Clan, and drawing praise from heavyweights like Just Blaze, Nas, and Mos Def. Since 2002, DOOM has released numerous volumes of Special Herbs, one of the longest-running instrumental series in hip-hop history. Now, volumes three and four of the acclaimed series are available on vinyl. With obscure loops and dusty samples galore, Special Herbs Vol. 3 & 4 is a must-have for any DOOM fan or hip-hop head.*Repress
Boot: ...Ramson Badbonez returns to Boot Records with the killer cut "Dark City". MysDiggi and Reveal also spit fire on this bass heavy riddim produced by Jazz T. This release also includes the track Clowns, which features the legend Micall Parknsun, plus the Ramson Badbonez Skeleton Key remix of Dark City. The B-Side of the wax has 2 instrumentals and the " Clowns" accapella. The incredible artwork is by Stilts and the video for Dark City is directed by Solomon Strange.
