Agency - High Heat | hellosQuare Recordings (cube070)

hellosQuare: ...Agency's stream of consciousness art-punk might seem miles away from their previous and parallel bands - A Drone Coda, Hoodlum Shouts and Spartak - but the influences that have always been in the background come to the fore with this piece of power pop in the style of Husker Dü and The Stooges on this debut single. On the flipside, Assad (Ben Andrews from My Disco/Agents Of Abhorrence) pulls apart an Agency instrumental and sets it adrift in a wash of Islamic prayer calls and Jakarta street sounds.

ELEGAL: ...For the fourth installment of the ELEGAL RECORDS sub-label, Klasse Wrecks is happy to present 4 different versions of a track that originally came out in 1993. Produced by the South London duo Aura (Gary Folgate and Dave Tutt), the track featured on an EP of the same name and was originally released by Infectious Records. Now specially remastered and remixed for 2022, the record comes with new versions from original group member Electron Forest (Dave Sage) and label regulars Luca Lozano and DJ Steve. The original tracks parts are picked apart in the new remixes, most making weighty use of the signature pipe drum melody (which was originally made by hitting lengths of plastic pipe with table tennis bats). Electron Forest turns in a wonderfully produced version, this is modern Trance with stylish elements perfectly executed. Luca Lozano provides what is now expected from the producer, a stomping breakbeat-led groover that introduces new vocals to peak the interested while DJ Steve turns in an ever impressive and original sounding Bleep-Techno interpretation, replaying the original parts with new synthesizers providing the tunes.
boomkat: ...Mesmerising, sui generis noumena from a mongrel duo of Püdel regulars, F#X/E.K.G. and Nika Son, a.k.a. C for Nina and good news' V I S label, together building on a collaborative practice developed during and since they were commissioned for an installation in a Hamburg gallery.Their Tennõ EP is a result of haptic and synthesised inputs generated from a variety of tape-machines, filters, self-made physical resonators, synths, drum machines and vocals, yet you’d be hard pushed to pick out where and how those “instruments” are used in the abstract, amorphous fabric of their compositions. Submitting to their sound is like going in blind, giving yourself up to their fancy. Across the front Geroll revolves a central knot of a hip hop break which seems to freeze and thaw in and out of focus like some lost joint from Spectre’s The End album left to fend for itself on the high plains, ending up stomping itself into an acid wormhole. On the other side, even the rhythmic handrail is extinguished with Diphtongues, plunging us into deepest indigo drones and a bath of glossolalic texturhythm acutely recalling Tongues of Light’s amazing Channelled Message at the End of History record, before spinning out along multiple vectors at once like a six-handed Valerio Tricoli in Tennõ.Another peach from this brilliant label.
