Butter Sessions: ...Naarm (Melbourne) based collective Butter Sessions celebrate over a decade in business with an extensive glossary of talented friends and affiliates pressed on a three-part compilation series. The label has always held the community closest, as exemplified by the 20+ artists featured over the three releases. Each 12” presents a grand soundscape anchored into the tenebrous energy of the dancefloor, with its inquisitive electronics and fierce pulse. If there was a definition for the Butter Sessions sound of ten years in the making, the answer lies here.Cale Sexton’s Mania unlocks volume two before handing things over to Roza Terenzi with Lava Flow, with both pieces showcasing oscillating euphonic electro. Mousse steps in flaunting the catchy acid stained You’re In Belgium, interweaving spoken word with his trademark mantra delivery. Tornado Wallace wields smooth dnb in Satellite whilst French duo Nummer fly high in cosmic and esoteric electronica with Clouds. Polito return to the label with their signature freeform techno, bestowing Divine Obsolescence. To sign off, Potatoheadz Records Sam Sedgewick makes his debut on the label with Affluent Intelligence, demonstrating crunchy padwork and volatile synth loops.

zamzamrec: ...⧘❒ ⧙❍Surprise Barbue, duo piece of Kevin Valentin and BenjaminMoutte. Ode for synthesizers. Robots with a chlorophyll tastewearing neon pink wigs. They illustrate shaded cinematic frames.They paint misty asteroid vignettes as a tapestry.Cosmic patches, raw textures, arpeggiators either hypnotic orsharp. The character of each keyboards is expressed in a preciseand careful mix, flowing into a synthetic stream in fluorescenthues.With Kabukichō, their debut LP for Zamzamrec, the compositionwas based around the creation of mini landscapes with cosmicand mythological atmospheres. The sounds evoke Sci-fiuniverses, psychedelic ambiances as well as early music andrepetitive music, not to mention the allusions to the pioneers ofelectronic music. Each influence takes place in the differentscenes of the same story.Like their first EP Super Barbu, released on cassette in 2019(ZZ56), the recording creates a unique contemplative experience.Ascending phases and striking chords, frenzied and upliftingsections, for a both rhythmical and meditative effect. EM Records: ...The second of two EM Records 12-inch vinyl-only "tribute releases" in support of the Kuzoku film "Bangkok Nites", this time by rap group stillichimiya, local heroes in their Yamanashi homeland. Based on samples from Dao Bandon's biggest hit, the classic luk thung Isan tune "Man on a Water Buffalo" [EM1131CD/LP], the tracks here, including a remix by Compuma, are a grittier, real-world counterpart to the dreamy first release in the series.

Premier Sang: ...This is second full-length release on wax by Sick Llama, after "Born Again To Die" on Hanson Records in 2007...Heath Moerland uses tapes, organ, synth, clarinet, and whatever else is laying around to balance a fine line between composition and improvisation. Musique concrete, process theory, modal jazz, drone, punk aesthetics and free approach to music. The first recordings were released in 2003 sparking off hundreds of releases and hundreds of performances throughout Europe, USA, Mexico and Canada. Sick Llama also runs the music/art label Fag Tapes which has issued over 375 releases.

boomkat: ...One of 2021’s lushest ambient sides, ‘Picnic’ is a proper friends and family affair helmed by the duo’s mdo & Ju Ca, a pair of Melbourne-based souls who share that region’s prevailing grasp of ambient warmth and elemental utility. Where their debut LP, proper, also included guest spots from the likes of Huerco S., The Humble Bee, Dntel, and DJ Paradise, this new 'Bonus' follows suit to infuse the far flung yet mutual spirits of the modern ambient rhizome, dialling in subtle reflections on the originals, as well as new collaborations, that diffuse and extend its pleasures into the gauzy mid-distance.
