The third installment of the Baast album series "Trident" sees the band heading into the direction of electronic soundscapes, delving deeper into soundtrack and ambient textures more so than previous albums "Dimension" and "Bazaar".R. Scott Dibble and the inimitable DJ Johnny Basil remain at the helm with a round of uber talented guest artists who've contributed in the past along with some new players, heavy on talent but even more so on the vibe that's captured in the recordings.
ORANGE MILK RECORDS: ...Maya’mi is the third release and first LP on Orange Milk from Alex Colombo’s Diamond Soul project. The album continues to experiment with hyper-abstracted electronics and collage aesthetics, which Colombo refers to as ‘mixed media’ music. Even though samples are used sparingly on the album, it retains a sense of micro genres and varied sources colliding on a moment to moment basis, a feel that I alway find comparable to fellow Orange Milk artists Koeosaeme, toiret status, and DJWWWW.
C. Lavender is a New York based sound artist and sound healing practitioner whose third full-length album explores meditative physical rituals of sound with binaural recordings from inside a geodesic dome in the Catskill Mountains of New York.“The future is a choice between utopia and oblivion,” noted architect, futurist and geodesic dome theorist Buckminster Fuller. Myth of Equilibrium delves into these divergent paths by featuring equal parts of pastoral raw acoustic percussion combined with C. Lavender’s signature “devastating caustic drones” (Ad Hoc) via her custom bass guitar and synthesizers. An assistant to the late pioneering electronic composer and Deep Listening founder Pauline Oliveros, C. Lavender’s astute editing and the binaural recording process places the listener within the heady fluctuating underworld she has created on this album. The recording environment of the geodesic dome allowed for sounds to transfer out beyond the confines of the walls as well as allowing outside sounds from the surrounding wilderness to permeate in like that of a mutating cell. The album suggests “headphone listening” for the full hypnotic experience Myth of Equilibrium presents to the listener.C. Lavender is a 2020 Pioneer Works (New York) Music Artist-in-Residence.
Originally released in January 2019 on Anti Fade, and then re-released in the UK by Full Time Hobby in September, both pressings are long out of print and much sought after. The reissue of Do Yeah features reworked artwork by drummer Jimi Gregg as well as a bonus third track, “Crane In The Tiger’s Mouth”, which was recorded at the same time as the rest of the 7” and released in the UK on the Full Time Hobby repress, but never saw the light of day in Australia until now. A heavily flute based track, Crane In The Tiger’s Mouth sees the band venturing into some jazzy areas blending ba-ba vocals and a lovely harpsichord melody over a tricky, off-kilter time signature.Do Yeah was recently announced as part of the soundtrack for Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2021 video game, which has welcomed many new fans far and wide to the Bananagun fanbase.Limited to 500 copies (with the first 150 on red vinyl).
