Sonorama: ...This is the first ever reissue of the lost debut LP by Jamaican tenor saxophone player Fitz Gore and his experimental group The Talismen from 1975. The work was originally released on Gore’s GorBra label and delivers an introspective, sensitive form of Spiritual Jazz. Recorded live in West Germany, the personnel are “Shepherd” Fitz Gore with Ulrich Kurth (Piano), Gérard Ebbo (Bass), Philippe Zobda-Quitman (Drums) and Lamont Hampton (Congas). The LP includes versions of John Coltrane’s “Dahomey Dance“ and the Horace Silver classic ‘Song For My Father“. The reissue was carefully remastered in 2021 and features the original cover design with a two page insert of the original notes, completed by the inclusion of Fitz`s poem “Sketches of Pain“.
Hopestreet Recordings: ...The best way to speed up a chemical reaction is to invite change and introduce an outside force: light, heat, movement. As The Cactus Channel know full well, the same goes with sound — introducing change compels a composition forward, as it rises, falls, peaks and boils. On their first release of 2017, vocalist Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music, My Own Pet Radio) is this catalyst for change, as the band collaborate with him on a full EP, introduced by lead single “Sorry Hills”.
Hopestreet Recordings: ...The Cactus Channel’s third album Stay A While takes the orchestrated soul futurism that has become their signature sound and adds silvery vocal dimensions, as the band’s own Lewis Coleman steps up to the mic. The band has recently shared the video for their first single “Storefront” and announced a huge national tour (dates below).Three is the magic number for The Cactus Channel. The ever-evolving Melbourne collective’s new album represents a new consciousness and a decisive turning point. Unloosed from their earlier incarnation as an instrumental soul and funk band into something wilder, a little darker and heavier, the new album sees The Cactus Channel diving in deep to dreamlike soundtracks, electrifying wig-outs and woozy meditations.
Micah Heathwood, is a producer, composer and instrumentalist based in Ngunnawal/Ngambri region, Canberra, Australia.Bottle is his new double single (+ bonus track) that was originally written as only the first of the two songs. The first song was originally written with a heavy emphasis on uptempo electronic/ breaks and live jazz. Originally its sound was very band heavy and sat in the realm of modern jazz that is coming out of places such as Melbourne and London. It was changed after its first studio recording. Micah practically remixed the recording, changed the arrangement, and added much more production, making it more IDM centred and thus different from its original live takes. Subsequently the live performance of the track changed as well.Bottle 2 was an add on in the journey of production. Micah felt it was an appropriate reflection on how he also wanted the track to feel, even though the initial track had a much faster and heavier sound to it.This release also offers a bonus track of the first live recording of Bottle, which was performed at Sideway in Canberra in 2021. This live recording shows the original jazz centred origins of the track, and also gives a picture of how the track has changed overtime.Micah is excited to release these three tracks as a precursor to his debut EP which will arrive later in 2024. The bonus track will only be available on purchase of digital album or CD. credits
