There are very few Mc’s in the UK rap game as engrained into the culture as Ramson Badbonez. Rising through the ranks as one of the most cut throat MC’s London had ever seen at 14, it wasn’t long before people started to take notice of the young talent, gathering London wide respect as well as getting recognition from UK Hip Hop godfathers Task Force. The rhyming machine has been a living and breathing embodiment of the culture ever since. By far one of the most prolific creators in the scene, Ramson Badbonez employs one of the strictest work ethics ever seen with over 12 full length albums to his name and showing no signs of slowing down.On the 28th February, Badbonez will present his latest work, a brand new album, with producer & long time collaborator Mark Fear, entitled ‘Death Mask’.Following his previous ‘Jason Bonez’ & ‘Mic Day The 13th’ releases, Badbonez has removed the hockey mask to don the Egyptian Death Mask, as he leaves the Jason Bonez moniker behind to focus on a much broader palette of concepts and inspiration. With topics ranging from the mysteries of the afterlife, the energy crisis to the lasting effects of colonialism to the failings of modern language - Badbonez has left no stone unturned. Fearlessly launching himself into the deep end, covering new ground and constructing incredibly dense prose perfectly matched by Mark Fear’s diverse yet crisp sound. Perhaps Ramson Badbonez’ most solid release to date, we expect ‘Death Mask’ to make a serious impact in 2020.
P-Vine: ...The best of 90s R&B "storehouse"! Jeff Redd's fantastic second album, miraculously reissued on CD in 2015, is now available on analog LP for the first time, much to the delight of 90s freaks!Jeff Redd's first album, "A Quiet Storm" (Uptown), was produced by the Untouchables, a unit of producers who would later lead the Hip Hop/R&B world, and Divante Swing, an R&B group just before their debut with Jodeci. (1985,'90), debuting as a major newcomer with hits such as "I Found Lovin'" and "Love High".After the success of the first album, the long-awaited follow-up, "Down Low," was scheduled for release in 1993, but was switched to Manhattan/EMI following the sudden closure of the black music division of the MCA label. The album was postponed shortly before its release. The album was postponed just before its release, and only a very small number of copies were recovered and released on the market, never to be heard again... a hidden item in the shadow of 90s R&B history! Despite the tragedy, the production is somewhere between New Jack Swing and Hip-Hop Soul, and Jeff's voice is irresistible! It is!
Young Echo: ...Highly regarded in underground circles since he first transmitted his styles via the airwaves at one of Young Echo’s infamous radio sessions back in 2012, he is a figure that could always be made out lurking in the shadows near the microphone, stepping through a thick cloud of smoke, holding a drink and putting soundboys to rest with an utterly deadly lyrical style and coolness. The perfect voice for Neek & Amo$’s obscure instrumental anthems, his style is free like the best of Jazz, and his wordplay is sharper than an architect’s pencil…‘I don’t fuck with fake tan, so please remove yourself from the reflection in my ray bans’….Step aside kid. Manonmars is the bo$$ now.A masterfully executed long player that will only get better with each listen, the third release on Young Echo’s very own imprint has been the talk of the town for some years now - and we’re glad it’s here now, out in the world.
"Together, California-based poets Damani Nkosi and Ill Camille are HARRIETT. Ill Camille's visceral and animated lyricism coupled with Damani Nkosi’s honest poetry and intricate wordplay makes for a dense, introspective and beautifully spiritual album". - Martin Boev
